Favorite Summer Acitivity- Registered Dietitians from Lahey Hospital & Medical Center visits the Ingall's Farm in Lynn, MA

Six of the dietitians at Lahey Hospital & Medical Center had lunch at Ingall’s Farm in Lynn, part of The Food Project.  The food was prepared by Chef Matt O’Neil of The Blue Ox with produce from the Food Project’s farms.  It was a delicious meal of a variety of salads featuring kale, roasted carrots, Swiss chard, zucchini, summer squash, patty pan squash, cucumbers, tomatoes, basil, roasted beets, and arugula.  The program allows 120 young people to work together to grow and distribute fresh produce.  As they work, they learn about social and food justice and develop leadership skills.  Produce from the farms is sold at farmer’s markets and through CSA farm share programs.  Produce is also donated and distributed to communities in need.  The goal of the project is to make fresh, healthy, local food affordable to all.  It was an amazing experience to see how the staff of the program work together to benefit the larger community.  For more information, see their web site at http://thefoodproject.org/.

Favorite summer activities from our colleagues at Lahey Hospital & Medical Center

After a long , harsh winter and a chilly start to the summer weather, we finally had a chance to experience summer this past week in Boston! The weather ranged from highs in the 90's (Fahrenheit) to lows in the 60's (Fahrenheit) in the evening.

At the Sodexo account at Lahey Hospital & Medical Center, our colleagues enjoy summer by spending time with their families, going on camping trips to Maine and New Hampshire, going to the beach or working on their homes. They shared lots of interesting and fun stories with me and it just brightened my day.

So, I have asked my colleague's permission to share their summer vacation stories on this blog so it will brighten your day as well! Hope you enjoy it as much as I do. Happy Summer!

The first article is from David Tupper, Sodexo Unit Controller at Lahey Health System. He just came back from his summer vacation at New Sharon, Maine. Let's hear from David about his vacation:

"I often travel to New Sharon, Maine to visit my cousin. From Burlington, it is about a three hour drive into the Maine countryside. It is covered with trees, farms and wildlife.

I love this area in Maine since I live and work in busy Massachusetts. It is a great feeling of relaxation to be somewhere that you can hear the birds chirp and watch the wildlife. Also, stargazing is pristine without any city lights to block out the view. Spending time with family and friends is precious, too.

I have friends in Maine who have a camp on Clearwater Lake in Farmington. It is a beautiful setting for lobster dinners by the water. There is always a cooling breeze off the lake in even the hottest weather. When you want to go out, you can visit The Ugly Moose restaurant and bar.

I have just returned from Maine and had a wonderful time. Working for Sodexo offers you the opportunity to work hard but also take the time off you need to re-energize yourself for work. Maine is the place I love to do this."

Thank you David for sharing your vacation with us!

Happy Father's Day! (Sunday, June 21)

Wishing all Dad a Happy Father's Day!

For this special day, I have prepared a special poem for all dad. Hope you like it!

A Father's Day poem by Cassandra Loh

A Dad is the first man a girl falls in love with
A Dad is the first man a boy looks up to
A Dad is the first man who tells you to be brave
A Dad is the first man who tells you not be afraid

A Dad is tough
A Dad is gentle
A Dad is our hero, our guide
Who gives us strength
To fail, to learn and to succeed

Dad might not talk a lot
Dad might not show us what he thinks
Dad likes to put on a shield
So we can't see how he feels

Sorry Dad, we are not letting you fool us
Cause you always have a soft spot for us

You might tell us today is just another day
But today is your day
To celebrate our love for you

We love you Dad! Happy Father's Day!

Congratulations to Chef Stephen Wetterwald, New Executive Chef at Sodexo account at Saint Memorial Hospital

Stephen Wetterwald (Steve), Sous Chef at Lahey Hospital & Medical Center has accepted a position with Sodexo as the new Executive Chef at Saint Memorial Hospital, a Sodexo account.

Chef Steve has been working at Lahey Hospital & Medical Center for almost 7 years. Under the leadership of Linda Clay, Director of Food and Nutrition and Chef David Cox, Executive Chef, Steve continues to develop his skills and learn Sodexo programs and standards.  While being employed at Lahey, Chef Steve has enrolled in both Lahey and Sodexo trainings. The training and development he accomplished throughout the years has helped him with his transition to become a Sodexo Executive chef.

According to Chef Steve, one of the many benefits of working in a Sodexo managed account is having the opportunity to work for a renowned hospital while learning from an established comprehensive service solution company such as Sodexo.  When he is ready to move on, there is no other place that he will consider apart from Sodexo, as Sodexo has always been a second "home" to him.

Chef Steve- Thank you for all that you have done at the Sodexo account at Lahey.  We look forward to seeing more great things from you! Welcome and see you soon!

At Sodexo, we believe in Making Everyday a Better Day for all those we served.
