Making everyday a better day- Focusing on our most valued asset- Our People

Hi there,

I have been focusing on how we make everyday a better day for all our patients and visitors in the last two videos. This week, I would like to take a minute to focus on our most important asset- Our People.

At the Sodexo account at Lahey, we are very proud and lucky to have the best team. Lahey Hospital and Medical Center Burlington is a very busy hospital but the team here never fails to celebrate the small little things that matter to each person. Here at Lahey, we treat each of our colleagues as an individual. Celebrating team success and showing appreciation is the norm here. It does not take a lot of work. It only requires a little passion, a little compassion and treat each of our colleagues as an individual. Paying attention to things that matter most to everyone is the key. When you put an effort in taking care of your team, your team will excel and you shall truly be "Making everyday a better day" for those we served.

Here are pictures and stories of our team at Lahey. I bet you could feel their joy and fun. Hope they will inspire you to feel the same:

Making Everyday a Better Day video- Part 2

Happy Wednesday!

Last week, I started a weekly "Making Everyday a Better Day" video featuring Chef Steve Wetterwald. He shares the positive attitude that he brings to the team in the video.

This week I was fortunate to be able to invite Nadege Joseph, Housekeeper III from the Environmental Services department to share her story with us.

I hope her story will inspire everyone. It's indeed a gift to be able to make a difference each and every day.

Hope you enjoy the video

Happy National Volunteer Week (April 6-12)

Happy National Volunteer week!

I would like to express a heartfelt "Thank you" to those who volunteered and gave back to the community.

According to a survey conducted by Gallup Well Being in 2013, http://www.gallup.com/poll/166250/americans-practice-charitable-giving-volunteerism.aspx 83% of Americans donated to charity in the past year and 65% volunteered.

Not only is volunteering and giving back to the community the right thing to do, it also brought a sense of happiness to those who gave. One of my favorite Sir Winston Churchill quotes truly summarizes the benefit of giving "We make a living by what we get, we make a life by what we give."

In commemoration  with National Volunteer week from April 6-12, I would like to repost a blog post that I wrote back  in November 2013, about giving the gift of volunterism during the holidays /2013/11/are-you-starting-your-holiday-shopping.html. You can actually give the gift of volunteerism anytime, anywhere, and on any occasion.

Happy National Volunteer Week and Have a great weekend!

Making Everyday a Better Day Video

At the Sodexo account at Lahey Hospital and Medical Center, we are very lucky to lead a wonderful group of colleagues in Environmental Services and Food and Nutrition Services.

They come to work each day with a positive attitude and truly demonstrates the CARES Spirit (Compassion, Accountability, Respect, Enthusiasm and Spirit). I love coming to work each day as I feel priviledged to have a chance to work with my wonderful colleagues who truly "Make everyday a better day" . When someone is lost, they are the first to offer assistance, when they didn't have an answer they will find someone who can help. When someone needs comfort, they offer a hug or when they see someone who needs help, they provide it. It's in our DNA at Lahey. To top it off, they all have fun and enjoy working with each other. It's indeed a wonderful place to be.

Hence, I would like to start a weekly "Making Everyday a Better Day" video highlighting the positivity that this team brings and how they do it everyday.

I hope their stories will inspire others. It's indeed a gift to be able to make a difference each day.

Hope you enjoy the video

Marie Cazeau, Housekeeper at Lahey truly exemplifies the meaning of Patients are the heart of everything we do......

At Sodexo we believe Patients are the heart of everything we do. We believe healing is more than curing a disease, an illness, or a condition. It's about caring for someone's complete physical and emotional well-being. It's about supporting guests, doctors, nurses, and non-clinical staff to enhance the healing process.

A few weeks ago, I received a messsage to call one of my colleagues, Marie Cazeau (Danielle). She told me she wanted me to help her "Make the patient feel better" as she saw one of "her" patient was very sad that day. She has spend time talking to the patient but she wanted to give a special card to the patient to wish her well. I've suggested her to make a towel animal for the patient but she wanted to do something even more amazing. So, we walk to the hospital gift shop and selected a cheerful get well card for the patient and we wrote a nice get well message. I wish I could take a picture to show you how happy Danielle was when she saw the card. She couldn't stop smiling. It feels like I just brought a kid to a candy store. The feeling of fulfillment and happiness. She truly display the true meaning of Patients are the heart of everything we do. This is not the first time she called me for ideas to improve patient's experience. I believe an act of kindness that displayed by Danielle goes a long way to help the patient's healing process.

Recently, Irene Camacho, Environmental Services department supervisor received a heartwarming letter from a patient's family regarding the care his mom received from Danielle. Here is the letter"

"Hello,

I am writing to make sure you know what a wonderful employee you have in Danielle Cazeau.  My mother is very sick and has been in and out (mostly in) of Lahey Hospital, 5 West, for months.  She has had many ups and downs with her illness.  I can truly say that Danielle has put a smile on my mother's face many, many times.  Danielle brightens my mother's day, which is so important right now while she is struggling.  Danielle is so thoughtful and she really does care about the patients.  She is someone that my mother looks forward to seeing daily.

I realize that cleaning the patients' rooms is Danielle's job.  However, I believe that her interacting with her great personality and caring are also a big part of her job.  My entire family is so thankful for employees like Danielle.

Honestly, Danielle makes things a little easier for my mother during this awful time.  She makes a difference.  I just wanted to be sure that you know that what a great asset Danielle Cazeau is to Lahey Hospital.
Thank you so much for your time”

Danielle- Thank you for all that you do. Thank you for putting Patients at the heart of everything we do
