Happy Food Services Week!

Happy Food and Nutrition week everyone!

This week across the country, foodservice facilities will be celebrating the yearlong contributions of their staff. Foodservice Week 2014 takes place October 6 – October 12, leaving us a week to take the time to thank the staff that spends the rest of the year making your day a better one.

Hospitality is a relentless occupation. There are days where the customer lines seem endless and the patient slips won’t stop printing. But the staff pushes on, serving each customer and patient as if they were the first. It’s not always easy. There are trials and tribulations just like any other profession. The difference in this industry is the need to have a positive attitude and a smile on your face. It’s easy to overlook the man or woman preparing the day’s breakfast or lunch and that’s why it’s important to take this week’s opportunity to thank them for what they do for you every day.

Their days begin at the crack of dawn and stretch on into the late afternoon. Others work all night and sleep all day. They eat their meals after you eat yours. They work crazy hours so your mealtimes are in sync with your day. They don’t take your complaints to heart because they know you might just be having a bad day. Whether its remembering how a regular enjoys their sandwich or making small talk while taking orders in line, there’s always a foodservice worker there trying to make your day a little bit more enjoyable.

It’s important to take some time each year and let these tireless employees know how important their work truly is. Foodservice week is an opportunity to take a step back and show gratitude for the thousands of meals they create each year without complaint. So this week when you’re in a fast-food drive through or sitting down at a fancy restaurant, try and remember to take the time to thank the staff for all they do.

It takes a special person to make a living by serving others, and we’re lucky to spend a lot of time in the presence of such people. Please take the time to thank these individuals during Foodservice Week 2014.

On behalf of the management team here at Lahey Hospital and Medical Center in Burlington, I would like to thank all of our food and nutrition colleagues for all that you do. Thank you for making every day a better day for everyone we serve. Happy Foodservices Week!
